About Us

Donna Degnan's experience with fabrics and design began as soon as she could pick up a pair of scissors and cut swatches for her parents' interior design business. As a child of interior decorators, Donna was exposed to, and inspired by, their creativity. Although her parents had hoped that she would also pursue interior design, Donna recalls being more drawn towards what her mother Rose was wearing rather than what she was decorating. Donna admired the classic lady-like look of the '60's that her mother wore so well.

Later in High School, Donna also remembers re-designing her jeans and combing thrift stores for vintage sweaters to create a self-described, "kooky," yet unique look for herself. So, with her love of fashion and the advice of a helpful guidance counselor, Donna attended Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan.

After graduation, Donna designed collections for a few major U.S. retailers where her tenacious work ethic and talent were noticed. In 1997, she was given the opportunity to design her own signature sportswear collection. "There was a void in the market for trendier-looking clothes with a more sophisticated look and workmanship," explains Donna. "As a woman, I was looking for these. As a designer, I decided to create them."

The Donna Degnan collection combines the richness and quality of bridge with the fashion forward styling of contemporary to create a new niche in the market. The collection is a modern take on fashion that caters to a woman's attitude rather than a particular age. Each season, the collection is designed to anticipate and incorporate the ever-changing fashion trends, without ever compromising the foundations of classic style that her lifelong muses -- her mother, Rose, and Audrey Hepburn -- have inspired within her.

As the collection evolved, Donna perfected her signature fit. This fit led to the launch of her denim sportswear line, D'Jeans by Donna Degnan. Her jeans, with just the right amount of stretch, have been dubbed as the 'miracle jean,' by retailers and customers alike. Donna recalls one customer in Atlanta saying, "Donna, when I wear your jeans, my husband walks behind me!" Donna jokes, "You couldn't pay for a better testimony than that!"

The Donna Degnan Collection has a very loyal audience of women. Television and film stylists feature Donna's pieces regularly. Most recently, Broadway stage actress Donna Murphy, Meredith Viera of 'The View,' and Deborah Norville (during her election coverage) were all spotted wearing Donna Degnan.

Donna Degnan has been featured in numerous magazines such as Marie Claire, WWD, Real Simple, Lucky among just a few of a growing list of others. Most recently, Donna Degnan was featured in a full page ad campaign with Cotton Incorporated.

Donna Degnan is sold in over 1,000 better specialty stores nationwide including: Tootsies, In Houston, Texas, Mitchell's & Richards of Connecticut, and Mark Shale in Chicago, Illinois.
